Sweden and South Korea: ‘Today the English language level of the Swedish population is among the highest of all non-English-speaking countries in Europe. In Sweden we never imported English teachers from abroad,’ exlaims Ylva Olausson in the Korea Herald. ‘We never even considered it as an alternative. I believe the main reasons for this are on one hand that you can be very good at a language but still not good at teaching. It is very hard for me to understand why in Korea a lot of people with influence think that they can pick language teachers from the street and put them in the classroom, and it will work as long as the teachers speak native English.’
