Malaysia: Creative Literacy

As we all know so well, it is important to infuse English lessons with creative literacies, according to a report in the Star. Language teaching should not be solely about the teaching of grammar, vocabulary, reading or writing, but should also espouse and nurture the thinking skills of learners, apparently. This can be achieved by stimulating the minds of learners to seek new ideas and ways of comprehending experience. It’s just that easy, it really is.

English language lessons can be structured to develop critical English language learners who are able to carefully determine whether to accept, reject or suspend judgment about a claim, cite good reasons for their opinions and correct themselves and others. For this to happen, learners need to be guided into dynamic dialogues and creative thinking processes through challenging questions, ideas and activities. Wow, I’ve just seen the light.
