5 Steps to School Fundraising Success

Here are five great ideas that will make sure that your next fundraising events runs smoothly, is fun and turns a profit.

1) If you don’t plan, get ready to fail

Well-organized planning is fundamental to any project and this is definitely true for school fundraising. If you don’t have a clear plan of what you want to achieve, pandemonium will reign, regardless how good your school fundraising ideas are.

In addition to a ‘plan A’, you should have a backup in case things go wrong.

2) Have only one leader who can effectively delegate authority

It is a fundamental truth that too many cooks will spoil the broth, especially when there is no one overlooking what they are doing. Single out a capable individual to be in charge and then let them take control.

The next step is for this person to allocate unambiguous jobs to those who have your confidence and who you can depend on. Make certain that all of your preferred people are aware of their ‘answerability’ for their given tasks.

3) Promotion, promotion and more promotion

Get the word! To promote your project, you may need to explore a variety of avenues to help you in your quest to accomplish your targets. So, how?

ء    Create press releases for local media resources

ء    Utilize your school web page

ء    Create and disperse promotional flyers

ء    Solicit the help of local businesses

The number one rule here is to not put all your eggs in one basket.

There are scores of methods to promote any event and you aim to benefit as many of them as is feasible.

4) Develop numerous revenue streams

The number one rule here is to not put all your eggs in one basket. Utilizing multiple income streams has led to triumph in the business world: there is no reason why you shouldn’t aim to run school fundraising in the same way.

5) Post Event Analysis of what went right… or wrong

Many forget to do this and choose to either bask in the glory of a successful event or try to wipe the memory of failure from their minds. Don’t forget how important it is to learn from the process. Scrutinize carefully how each of your school fundraising efforts did. What exactly did the paying customers really enjoy? Which activities were the most profitable? What event was the easiest to organize and execute? Asking pertinent questions will enable your next event to go even better. It’s particularly beneficial to write these things down. Doing this will make it much easier for the school fundraisers who are organizing next year’s event to enjoy the success that you and your school deserves.
