New Jersey: Good news for Hudson County’s large Spanish-speaking population: New Jersey ranks fifth in the nation in terms of how it treats students learning English, according to a report card issued yesterday by the Education Week trade journal.

Report gives Arizona education mixed grades

Arizona: Arizona education gets high marks for holding schools accountable and for rigorous student standards, but once again the state pulls a failing grade in financing schools. The assessment is contained in a report called “Quality Counts 2009: Portrait of a Population,” released today by Education Week magazine.

Williford students to learn via bilingual eBooks

North Carolina: Students at Williford Elementary School soon will be able to access English and Spanish eBooks with audio after the school received a grant from Sylvan Dell Publishing. The grant provides the school a one-year site license with unlimited access to all 35 Sylvan Dell eBooks.

California Awards Pearson Two-Year Contract to Manage Certification Testing for Teachers of English Language Learners

The Earth Times - California: Pearson announced today that the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has awarded the company a two-year contract to manage its certification testing for teachers of English Language Learners, the California Teachers of English Learners(R) (CTEL(R)) exams.
