ELT World is a great website with lots of good stuff. I see that among your ELT World Discussion Forums, there is a Lifestyles Abroad group. If any of your Lifestyles Abroad readers are interested in the lifestyles of English teachers in Japan, there is a podcast called The Japanofiles which has interviews with many English teaching professionals in Japan.

Thanks for the link, I hope people find it useful.

  3. What a great site you have! I’ve been looking for some sites with good TESOL news to link to on my blog. This looks wonderful!

I am looking forward to reading over your site. I went to graduate school in Nanning and love the Chinese language. That started me thinking about new language acquisition. Since then we have adopted a daughter from China who was 8 years old and had a hard time learning English. Since then I’ve worked with Spanish speaking children learn English, and now have another Chinese student who is 7 years old. I’m trying to find information on whole word learning vs. phonics. Since Chinese characters are more the whole word concept it would seem beneficial to start young Chinese ESL students on whole word, rather than phonics (which are confusing to most ESL students…too many exceptions). Anyway, you have a great site and I am looking forward to learning more.

Thanks for his helpful blog. EFL is a complex field with plenty of ups and downs.
